Are you interesting in pursuing a career in business after high school? Do you want to learn all about good entrepreneurship and how to properly keep track of finances in a business setting? If you want to take risks with the prospect of big rewards, you should take Mrs. Kern’s Accounting 1 and 2 classes! Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors can take Accounting 1 and Juniors and Seniors that passed the intro class can take Accounting 2. These students will have 2 semesters of in-depth studying of essential business concepts such as tracking business transactions with automated and manual accounting systems, and how to properly merchandise. This class can satisfy a Career and Technical Education (CTE) Credit, and even a third year math graduation requirement. A mathematics based course, Accounting will be done in this class in a variety of ways which include using computer software and applying math problems to real world and business situations. This class can also help serve as a great foundation for some college courses and Accounting 2 may qualify for college credit!

Right now in Accounting, Mrs. Kern is teaching the students about the complex yet highly beneficial to understand, accounting system. The accounting system revolves around an equation: Assets is equal to Liability plus Owner’s Equity. This equation, paired with the rules of debit and credit is among the most essential things for an accountant to learn and become confident in working with.

Learning all of the concepts throughout the year in Mrs. Kern’s class will help anyone with gaining life skills and business skills. Mrs. Kern took an Accounting for Entrepreneurs class while at college and she says it was one of the most fun classes that she has ever taken. The things she learned in accounting courses greatly helped her when she owned her own business. She says that she got to directly apply her knowledge as she was made responsible of all of the “Accounts Payable” and the “Accounts Receivable” for her personal company.
