BLHS DECA Reaches Out the Community

Last week, the BLHS DECA chapter decided to serve beyond our school for a community service project. Mrs. Moody in the CIC, told them about Rainer Rehabilitation, a retirement home located in Puyallup, WA. They contacted the facility and decided to make Thanksgiving cards for all 117 of the residents staying there.

DECA holds meetings on Wednesdays during both lunches. During the November 14th meeting, members signed the cards wishing the residents a “Happy Thanksgiving”. Students were extremely engaged in this and many wrote more than one card. By the end of second lunch, all 130 cards were signed.

Members in the chapter went to personally deliver the cards to the retirement home. They got to meet a few of the residents and go on a tour of the facility.  The residents and staff were very friendly and kind, and the experience was inspiring. Rainier Rehabilitations is always looking for volunteers, so if you need volunteer hours, or simply want to make a difference in the community, consider volunteering there.
