TABG Review

David Warford, Staff Writer

TABG stands for totally accurate battle grounds. It is an april fools joke by landfall studios, and is a spinoff of their game TABS. TABG is a battle royale version of TABS and makes use of wacky physics based combat.

This game is quite aesthetically pleasing, and really fun to look at, you can literally turn around and look are your own character. It’s quite amusing really. However sadly i could not enjoy it, the game suffers from terrible performance and optimization issues, it maxed my GPU out and i could hardly play the game. Keep that  in mind as you read this article, i had a very bad technical experience with the game, so if your game preformas well then it might be a ton of fun.

One of the bigger issues is that it takes forever to find a match, these seems to be due to unexpectedly high player counts in a region, as when i switched to there second us server i found a game almost instantly.

There are also a host of camera issues, likely due to the fact that this game is physics based, sometimes your camera can start bouncing, and it can get so bad that it will start to hurt your eyes. I also had an issue when i attempted to zoom in, were i would only see the color blue.

The combat is quite entertaining, but i’m not so sure that it is worth playing for very long, the wacky physics based combat can cause a lot of entertaining situations, however it can also cause a lot of issues. For Instance if you try and hp fire with a gun it just sprays everywhere, it doesn’t even point vaguely the direction you wanted it to go. However that can be part of the fun. Probably my biggest issue with it is that, although there is enough of these wacky physics based mechanics to cause issues, I’m not sure there is enough to make the game good, although it is certainly novel.

All in all I think that if you want a battle royale, don’t play this one, and if you want a physics based game, play any other game made by landfall. TABS is really good, clustertruck is amazing, and stick fight just works in parties. This is certainly one of their worst games, but if they can iron out some of the technical problems. However they probably won’t fix many of the issues, as the game was simply made as an april fools joke.
