Echo Combat Coming June 2nd

David Warford, Staff Writer

Echo arena is arguably the best (and there isn’t much argument) free vr game. And they recently announced the release date of a major expansion, Echo Combat. The release date for closed beta is June 2nd. However in the meantime you can check out Echo Arena.

Echo arena is a VR sports game in zero gravity, if you ever watched ender’s game it will be very familiar. The arena looks like some mix between Tron and the Ender’s Game training room. Dark surfaces with bright neon lights in blue orange and purple cover the arena, on both sides of the arena their are launch tubes which can be used to launch into the arena at the start of the match. And their is a disc in the middle for both players to grab, you win the game by scoring more points in your opponents goal.

However I would like to talk about the features from echo arena that are likely to show up in Echo Arena Combat. First thing is movement, a major part of echo arena is zero gravity, so much so that i believe there is about a 99% chance that echo combat will not have gravity. The next is movement, in echo arena you have small thrusters on your hands, and a big one on your back. These allow you to move around in zero gravity even when you are motionless and far away from the surface, you also get brakes to stop when you are far away from the surface. Speaking of surfaces, you can grab onto any surface, this allows you to push of or throw yourself, or even just hang on. You can also grab onto other players, this will cause you to inherit their movement, this adds a lot of depth to echo arena and will likely be a central mechanic in echo arena combat.

Now if you are eager to start playing, sadly you won’t get to play on june second. The game is going through multiple closed beta periods, these closed beta periods are also under NDA so sadly I won’t be able to write about it. However you can go right now and apply for a beta key!
